I can`t install xgl

    I can`t install xgl

    hy.
    I can't install xgl,in my kubuntu dapper. I have an ati x700 graphic card, whith this computer: ACER ASPIRE 1694 WLMI.
    when I try to install this package, the console show this error:
    (spanish)

    XGL is still work in progress software(expect bugs and crashes) and getting it to run in some distros is harder than others, Kubuntu happens to be one of the harder ones because it uses KDE. Either way, installing it is much more difficult than installing a package.
    Here's a how-to specifically for Kubuntu with ATi cards:

    There's alot of complicated stuff in that how-to, if you're up to it you might end up with working xgl/compiz, but then again it might not work, and worse even you might end up with an unbootable system. Also ATi card support is poor in Linux, so that reduces your chances, and performance i heard isn't very good either atm.

    I don't recomend you try this, it's risky and not worth the trouble in my opinion. Your best bet is to wait until XGL matures and becomes more compatible and stable. If you really want to try out XGL/Compiz there's a Linux Live CD that has it already set up for you:

        Can I solve this problem with ubuntu?
        I have an other pc with ubuntu dapper and an ati radeon 9600 pro card, and I don't have any problem with xgl.
        But I prefer Kde desktop.
        can i install a kde appearance in gnome?I have read in other forums that it is posible.

          well... as I said before... follow the instructions at the link above... and you should be able to get it working on KDE
